Bird cremation in Spain follows the same basic choices as anywhere: private cremation with the remains returned, or communal cremation without. What differs is how services are organised, what the smallest weight band costs and which authority to call if backyard or aviary birds die suddenly. Each city page below adds local detail.
Across Spain, private cremation for small animals is widely available, but few providers publish bird-only prices. A bird almost always falls into the lowest weight band, so ask for that price, and ask whether a tray or dish is used so very small remains can be recovered.

What bird cremation costs in Spain
A German consumer guide lists collective pet cremation at EUR 85 to 205 and individual at EUR 165 to 375[2]. A bird will sit at the bottom of those ranges. In Spain, as in most of Europe, the vet is usually your first contact, but you can approach a pet crematorium directly for a clearer price.
Norway shows how wide European prices can be: one crematorium lists communal cremation from NOK 1,190 and separate cremation from NOK 3,790 for the lightest band, with NOK 1,790 extra for same-day return[3][4]. A bird needs no rush. Around Spain, ask for the standard return and spend the difference on a keepsake.

Local rules for birds and backyard flocks in Spain
Cremating a pet bird rarely needs any permit. The rules that do apply to birds are about burial, scattering and disease: where you can dig a grave, and what to do if several birds die suddenly and avian influenza is possible. Here's what applies in Spain.
In Spain, pet crematoria offer individual (incineración individual) and collective cremation, and most arrangements go through the vet. Canaries and other songbirds are widely kept; ask for the smallest weight band and whether a tray is used for tiny remains. If several birds die suddenly, contact a vet before burying or cremating them.
A short plan for saying goodbye to your bird
- If a sitter calls while you're away, ask them to put on gloves, bag your bird and place the bag at the back of the fridge.
- Phone your vet from wherever you are. Tell them who's looking after the flock and find out if the clinic will hold your bird until you're home.
- Protect the other birds. Have the sitter keep the room calm and warm, and check that the remaining birds are eating and their droppings look normal.
- Don't agree to anything by text you haven't read. A clinic can hold your bird until you return and sign.
- Once you're back, choose the kind of cremation and whether a necropsy is worthwhile.
- Thank the sitter. Discovering a dead pet is upsetting for the person who found them, and they'll want to hear how it ended.
Small, lasting ways to honor a bird
Feathers are the keepsake most bird keepers treasure. A few flight feathers in a shadowbox with the leg band, a single tail feather tucked into a book, or a small bunch in a glass dome can say more than any urn. If you have molted feathers saved from over the years, those count too. Some Spain keepers also have a tiny urn made to match the colors of their bird.

Who handles suspected bird flu in Spain?
Most countries treat avian influenza in poultry and kept birds as a reportable disease. Contact a vet or the national animal health authority before moving, burying or cremating birds that died suddenly, and keep the bodies bagged and cool in the meantime.
