Many municipalities collect deceased pets for a small fee, but the ashes are not returned; Shinjuku City, for example, charges JPY 3,000 per animal[7]. If you want your bird's remains back, book an individual cremation with a pet funeral provider.
What to do when your bird dies in Fukuoka
- If several backyard birds died suddenly, stop and call your vet or the animal health authority before moving or cremating them.
- Keep your bird cool. Bag them and put them in the refrigerator within an hour in warm weather.

How do I explain my budgie's death to a young child?
Use simple, true words: your bird has died and won't wake up. Avoid "put to sleep" or "went away", which can frighten or confuse small children. Let them ask questions, look at the bird if they wish and help choose a keepsake. Children often grieve in short bursts, so expect questions to come back days or weeks later.
Is private cremation worth it for a very small bird?
